Family Services

Are you puzzled by your child’s behaviors and wondering how to manage them? Does your child exhibit big emotions that block their success and disrupt the family? If so, we may be able to help.

Even when we love our children and do our best to protect them, despite our best efforts, our kids may experience some hard things. These adverse child experiences impact our child’s developing brains, emotions, and behaviors, and may include any of the following:

  • Stress during pregnancy (this can even include good stress, like finishing a degree)
  • Exposure to drugs, alcohol, or poor nutrition during pregnancy
  • Difficult birth (including C-sections or any number of birth complications)
  • Premature birth and/or time in the NICU
  • Early medical interventions
  • Divorce or separation
  • Parental alienation
  • Witnessing or experiencing a life-threatening event
  • Death of a parent or family member
  • Substance abuse in the home
  • Mental illness of a family member
  • Domestic stress or violence
  • Parental incarceration
  • Removal from their biological family
  • Time in the foster care system
  • Physical, emotional, or sexual abuse
  • Physical or emotional neglect

Kids who have experienced any of the above events may struggle with any of the following emotions and behaviors:

  • Tantrums/Outbursts
  • Oppositional Defiance
  • Manipulative behaviors
  • Difficulties with transitions
  • Lying/Stealing
  • Making poor choices
  • Fighting with siblings or peers
  • Anger/Rage
  • Sadness/Depression
  • Grief/loss
  • Anxiety/fear
  • Lack of focus and/or hyperactivity
  • Easily escalated (without obvious trigger)
  • Rigidity or ”stuck” thinking
  • Bedtime/sleep struggles
  • Attachment struggles
  • Sensory sensitivities
  • Hypervigilance (i.e. being on high alert)
  • Academic difficulties
  • School behavioral issues

If you feel overwhelmed by your child’s emotional and behavioral needs, Nurturing Change is here to help. We utilize a trauma-informed intervention that was developed for parents, called Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI)®. Through our TBRI® parenting classes and individualized support, we will walk alongside parents, empowering them to understand and meet the unique behavioral and emotional needs of their children.

Nurturing Change will soon announce the launch of our Family Support Services program. To be the first to hear about it, sign up to receive our updates.

(Would you like to help provide these services to families? Help support a future family in need through your generous gift today.)
