The Effects of Trauma and Stress

Parenting is hard. Parenting a child through adversity is even harder.

When a child comes home, parents do not receive an instruction manual. Knowing how to best meet the needs of a child is not always easy. This is especially true when a child has undergone difficulties, which often affect their developing brain, emotions, and behavior.

64% of people experience at least one potentially traumatic event during childhood. Often referred to as Adverse Childhood Experiences, these can have effects that last into adulthood.

ACES often cause emotional distress, challenging behaviors, and power struggles within a family. These can even result in child welfare involvement and failed adoptions, leaving parents and professionals searching for solutions.

Nurturing Change empowers caregivers with insight and proficiency in trauma-informed care, in order to provide emotional healing and behavioral transformation to kids.
